Barcelona's underground faces an important challenge for
the future: to take on in a decade one of the most important
expansions of the network in its history, as well as the renewal
of its oldest mobile material. This challenge is based on
the written commitment by all the competent institutions in
the Infrastructures Managing Plan (Plan Director de Infraestructuras),
(PDI) for the period 2001-2010; ultimately agreed by the Board
of Directors of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (Consejo
de Administración de la Autoritat del Transport Metropolità).
The dates for its building and the budget needed to make it
a reality are specified in the said plan.
Stretching all the lines
The present 5 underground lines will be stretched in some
of their extremes. Their specific expansions will be:
Prolongation
L1: Fondo - Badalona i Feixa Llarga - El Prat.
Prolongation
L2: Pep Ventura - Morera and Sant Antoni - Foc Cisell.
Conversion
to L2 of the present stretch of L-4 La Pau-Pep Ventura.
Prolongation
L3: Canyelles - Trinitat Nova.
Prolongation
L4: La Pau - Sagrera i Trinitat Nova - Can Cuiàs.
Prolongation
L5: Horta - Vall d'Hebron
