The main site of the 1992 Olympic Games
Montjuïc's Anella Olímpica (Olympic Ring) was the nerve
centre of the 1992 Olympic Games. This is the place where some of
the most thrilling moments of the Games took place during that
magical summer when Barcelona became the world capital of sport and
harmonious coexistence. The Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi
sports palace, the telecommunications tower, the headquarters of
the National Physical Education Institute (INEFC) or Sports
University, and the Picornell swimming pools, are the major
facilities in the Olympic Ring. On the other side of the stadium
are the city's botanical gardens, the Jardí Botànic
de Barcelona, which opened in 1999. Their collection of plants,
which represents the five regions of the world with a Mediterranean
climate and the subtropical vegetation of the Canary Islands, is
distributed in an innovative way and grouped together in a
recreation of their natural landscapes.
